St. John’s College Class Chair Program

Santa Fe 1960s-70s archivalThe Class Chair Program deepens and expands alumni engagement by strengthening the bond between the college and its alumni. This program is a signature effort in the Alumni Association’s collaboration with the college to sustain the Program. The nature of a class chair is as a communicator and liaison. The peer-to-peer communication provides a more meaningful and personalized form of outreach to alumni.

  • Participation is not time consuming—it’s meant to be a simple, flexible program that you can design to suit your schedule and communication preferences.
  • Class chairs keep classmates connected to the college by informing them of current news at St. John’s, and providing feedback to the college regarding classmates’ interests and concerns.
  • Class chairs also serve as reunion chairs during reunion years, working closely with the Alumni Office to encourage classmates to attend Homecoming and to solicit ideas from classmates about seminar preferences and class-specific celebratory events.
  • Most tasks are quickly accomplished by class chairs. For instance, a class Facebook page and email distribution list can be created in 30 minutes—and if you’re not fluent with Facebook, college staff will assist you. For those who prefer a less technology centric outreach approach, personal calls can be made to relay information to peers, or you can write a letter that is then mailed by the Alumni Office to classmates.
